The London giants centre-back Thiago Silva has been left out of his side’s trip to face Krasnodar in the UCL because he’s been rested, the English coach has confirmed. Brazil international was not part of the squad that flew to Russia this afternoon, sparking fears that the defender has sustained an injury.
Thiago was fantastic in Blues 0-0 draw with Man United on Saturday, making two crucial blocks towards the end to keep out Edinson Cavani. Silva has simply been rested for the trip and has no underlying issue ahead of Blues PL game with Burnley this weekend.
Asked about the 36-year-old’s absence, Frank insisted there was no injury issue and that he was focused on the group that did travel. ‘Everyone else here is fit and available,’ he said. Silva’s absence means it’s likely one of Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen or Fikayo Tomori will likely partner Kurt Zouma in central defence in south Russia.
Kepa was another notable absentee but Arrizabalaga is believed to have sustained a shoulder injury in training which has prevented him from travelling. With Blues boss having never been involved in a 0-0 as Frank Lampard before those two fixtures, he will probably take that, even if it’s just two points gained from two fixtures.
The Brazilian centre-back has been immense recently for the London giants, but as the Blues report on their official website, he has not travelled with the squad to face Krasnodar in the UCL tomorrow. That could provide a chance for Antonio Rudiger to force his way back into Frank Lampard’s thinking.
