It seems like Arsenal’s summer transfer actions are about to kick-off as reports claim Unai Emery is closing in on a summer move for William Saliba.
Emery has only managed to sign Brazilian youngster Gabriel Martinelli thus far this summer but the manager has been strongly linked with William in recent months and it seems a long-awaited deal is on the verge of completion.
According to the latest reports in France via the Metro, the 18-year-old Saint-Etienne centre-back has decided to reject interest from Tottenham Hotspur in favour of signing for Arsenal this summer.
The club were expected to complete a £27 million deal last week before Spurs attempted to hijack the move by offering a slightly higher sum to Saint-Etienne and improved contract terms to the star.
However, Peuple-Vert states Saliba still wants to sing for Arsenal and the French publication says the club have now reached an agreement with Saint-Etienne that will see Gunners pay an initial fee worth just under £30 million [€33m].
The report says a further £6.3 million [€7m] in add-ons will be due if William meets certain criteria while a 20% sell-on clause has also been included and the centre-half will be immediately sent back to Ligue 1 club on loan once the deal is completed.
If true, it sounds like Les Verts have got themselves a great deal for the talent but Arsenal should be please too as William has a huge future ahead of him and the experts think he will prove to be an excellent signing.
