Manchester United star Fred is closing in on a summer move, after being allowed to discuss a potential deal with Galatasaray.
The 26-year-old midfielder moved to Old Trafford from Shakhtar Donetsk the previous summer for £52m – as per the Independent – but his debut season in Manchester didn’t exactly go according to plan.
The South American was restricted to just 17 EPL appearances in total under both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Jose Mourinho, struggling to live up to expectations in the middle of the park as United failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
According to Fotomac via Sport Witness, the Red Devils flop is nearing a summer transfer to Turkish club Galatasaray, after holding positive negotiations with the club over a loan move.
The Red Devils are content to offload Fred ahead of the 2019-20 campaign, but only on a temporary basis with a view to bringing the star back to Old Trafford if Fred can rediscover his best form by playing regular first-team football.
The Brazil international was considered as the man to help free up Frace international Paul Pogba in midfield last season, but he was not able to hold down a spot in United’s starting eleven and flattered to deceive when get the chance to prove himself.
He did show glimpses of his talent, most notably during a UCL last-16 win over Paris Saint Germain, which saw Ole’s side overturn a two-goal aggregate deficit in France.
However, it now looks likely that the midfielder will be shipped off to Turkey in order to regain his confidence, which might mean Red Devils are gearing up to bring in an extra midfielder before the transfer market slams shut on August 8.
