Pablo Mari will consider his options in winter, with his former club Flamengo set to make an offer for the centre-back. The Spanish defender started the campaign at the heart of the London giants’ back-line but struggled in the defeats with Brentford and Chelsea with Romelu Lukaku, in particular, giving him a torrid time.
Pablo’s just game since that 2-0 defeat came during September’s Carabao Cup victory over Wimbledon and looks unlikely to force his way back into the reckoning.
In his absence, Gabriel and White have formed an increasingly impressive central defensive partnership, while the likes of Holding and Chambers offer the Spanish manager capable backup options.
Saliba, meanwhile, is currently impressing on loan at Marseille and is likely to return next campaign, which would further hinder the 28-year-old defender’s opportunities of establishing himself as a regular first-team footballer at Emirates Stadium.
Speaking last year, the Spaniard outlined his intention to stay at the London club for many years, but the goalposts have significantly changed since he joined, originally on loan. ‘This is a footballer’s life. If you want to play football and you want to improve to get to a big club, then every year you need to move.’
‘Maybe when you find a club that is good for you, then you can stay and improve with that club. I have found myself here at Arsenal. It is a really good option for me. I want to stay here and improve as a player and a person. I want to be here for many more years.’
