Arsenal and Tottenham battle for £37m South American winger

Tottenham Hotspur are the first club to have made a move for Barcelona flop Malcom, who has failed to justify his £36.5 million price tag since joining from the French club Bordeaux last July, appearing only 21 times in his first season at Camp Nou – 12 of those outings coming from the bench.

The 22-year-old appears to remain an in-demand player, however, as Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund have all been linked with the attacker over the past month.

Spanish news outlet Sport reports that Spurs are leading the race for the Brazilian’s services as they have already been in touch with the Catalan giants regarding a summer transfer.

However, the report adds that the Spanish champions are refusing to cash in on Malcom for less than they paid for him, which could put Spurs off making a formal offer but it must be admitted that Arsenal cannot allow themselves to invest so much in one player while defence has to be strengthened in the summer.

Unai Emery is desperate to add a top-class centre-back to his side and wants to sell Shkodran Mustafi in the summer alongside his compatriot Mesut Ozil.

The exit of the German duo will surely boost the Gunners as they will get rid of the huge wages these two have.

Meanwhile, Arsenal transfer target Samuel Umtiti has claimed that he is not interested in leaving Camp Nou and wants to remain at the La Liga giants despite interest from the Premier League giants.
