Arsenal are close to signing 22-year-old Norway international

The Spanish coach has already spoken to Martin Odegaard ahead of his move to the London giants and has promised the Real Madrid playmaker that he will get a regular role in the team, according to reports in Spain. It’s understood that Gunners have now reached an initial agreement to sign Odegaard on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

Norway international has expressed his desire to leave the Los Blancos before the end of the winter window as he has failed to force his way into the French manager’s plans. Martin has started three matches in La Liga this campaign and was surprisingly left out of the squad earlier this week as Real were beaten by Alcoyano in the Copa del Rey.

And Mikel Arteta has held negotiations with the 22-year-old playmaker and promised the attacker that he will be an ‘important player’ for Arsenal. The report also claims that the Spanish coach has indicated to the Norwegian attacker that he will be handed more opportunities at Emirates than he has been getting under Zizou at La Liga.

Martin has now been left out of Los Blancos matchday squad for their La Liga game with Alaves on Saturday. It was initially believed that Odegaard had favoured a return to Real Sociedad having thrived there on loan last campaign.

The London giants are now expected to complete a deal for Martin, which would see him move to the PL for the remainder of the season.

As with their loan deal for Dani Ceballos, Gunners will not have a purchase option in their deal for Martin, with Real Madrid keen to assess the playmaker’s progress in the summer. Ceballos has also reportedly spoken with Odegaard about his possible move to the London club this month.
