Arsenal closely monitoring 31-year-old Netherlands international

The London giants are in pole position to sign Georginio Wijnaldum in winter. The PSG midfielder is looking to return to the PL after a difficult start to life in France. The Netherlands international has been approached by his former club Newcastle United, but it appears the playmaker favours a move to London.

It should serve as welcome news for the Gunners, who were recently handed a major blow in the pursuit of top target Arthur Melo. Although the Brazilian midfielder is prepared to join the Gunners in winter, Juventus are unlikely to sanction a sale unless Arsenal offer Thomas Partey in return.

The likely collapse of the Arthur Melo deal has forced the Spanish manager to set his sights on alternatives, with Gini emerging as an ideal candidate. Wijnaldum has endured a difficult start to his PSG career so far, scoring just one goal in 18 games while producing a slew of bad displays in Ligue 1.

However, his struggles at PSG have not deterred Arsenal, who are well aware of his talents and the experience he brings to the table.

With over 200 Premier League and Eredivisie games, coupled with the experience of winning the PL and UCL titles, the Dutchman does indeed have a strong pedigree at the highest level of football. The Gunners are looking for a new midfielder who can accompany Partey during the second half of the season.
