Arsenal closely monitoring No.8 World Cup winning attacker

Nabil Fekir was one of the London club’s main targets in the upcoming winter transfer window, with Arsenal tracking his progress for a long time. However, it appears the Gunners’ pursuit of France international might not be successful, as the footballer is favouring a prolonged remain at Real Betis.

Indeed, Fekir is happy with life in Spain and is expected to pen a new contract that will extend his current deal that expires in 2023. Formerly of Lyon, Nabil joined Real Betis back in 2019.

The 28-year-old playmaker joined the Spanish club for a fee of only €20m, a move that has turned out to be a bargain for the Spanish giants, as the footballer has provided consistent displays in La Liga since.

While the French playmaker’s tally of 15 goals and 17 assists in 89 competitive games may seem underwhelming, his overall contributions have been far greater. Indeed, Fekir has significantly modified his game since his move to Spain, appearing to be more of a creative string-puller than a dynamic playmaker who can bombard the flanks.

It has decreased his productivity going forward, but Fekir is a much more complete playmaker. His progress at Real Betis has not gone unnoticed either, with the Gunners considering him as an ideal reinforcement option in the upcoming winter transfer window.

Although enjoying a net positive campaign under the Spanish manager so far, Arsenal are desperate to further remodel their squad in winter.
