Brazil starlet Gabriel Martinelli has hinted at a switch to Arsenal by following the north London club on social media ahead of a prospective £6.5 million move to Emirates.
Arsenal have tracked the 17-year-old South American for the last 18 months after the head of international recruitment Francis Cagigao signalled up the forward’s potential.
Gabriel Martinelli qualifies for Italy through his Father’s citizenship and will hence not need a work permit to complete his move to London club, who have already agreed a fee with Ituano FC and Martinelli has indicated he’s excited about his move by following the Gunners’ Instagram account.
It is unclear whether the winger will go straight into Unai Emery’s first team squad or whether the attacker will have to bide his time to breakthrough.
The Premier League club’s transfer budget is understood to be a modest £45m this window and Unai Emery will consider selling some players to raise funds.
The Spanish manager confirmed after the Europa League final defeat to Chelsea that there would be exits as a result of the failure to qualify for the Champions League.
‘Our idea is to continue to carry on and improve with the young players that have arrived,’ Emery said. ‘Maybe some players need to leave, but it’s not the moment to speak about that.’
‘We have the possibility for a lot of players to improve. We have young players getting the first experience of a final, and I am positive for our future with young players getting better in our way.’
