Arsenal are reportedly eyeing up a potential summer transfer swoop for Lille defensive midfielder Boubakary Soumare as Mikel Arteta draws up his wish-list for next campaign.
The France Under-21 international defensive midfielder has really caught the eye in Ligue 1 this campaign, looking one of the most outstanding young prospects in Europe.
A recent report from Le 10 Sport claimed Boubakary Soumare rejected a transfer to Newcastle in January and was hoping to join Liverpool or Manchester United in the summer, with a £51million fee likely to be enough to seal a transfer.
Though, the Daily Mail now claim he’s one of the players on Arsenal’s radar as Mikel Arteta lines up a significant revamp of his line-up at the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Boubakary Soumare looks ideal for Arsenal’s needs in midfield after some disappointing form this campaign from the likes of Matteo Guendouzi and Granit Xhaka.
It remains to be seen, however, if the 20-year-old ace would pick the Gunners over clubs like Man Utd or Liverpool if they also showed an interest in him.
The Mail also mentions Real Madrid as possible suitors for Boubakary Soumare, so this looks one of Arsenal’s more ambitious transfer targets.
Manchester United also badly need improvements on under-performing midfielders like Andreas Pereira and Nemanja Matic, while Liverpool may perhaps want a signing like this to build for the future as the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum, James Milner and Jordan Henderson can’t go on forever.
