According to the latest transfer news, Arsenal are ready to sign Boca Juniors forward Cristian Pavon.
The Gunners are in the market to compensate Alexis Sanchez, who has already reportedly agreed to personal terms with Manchester City.
Arsenal and City have yet to agree to a fee for the Chilean, and although the Gunners are operating out for a £40 million transfer fee, it’s assumed that a deal will be completed before the January deadline.
According to TyC Sports, the Gunners have named Pavon as Sanchez’s replacement and are ready to pay the 21-year-old’s $37 million (£27m) release clause.
It’s also reported that Arsenal are eager to conclude this deal instantly as the sale of Sanchez to City is close.
Pavon, who has also been watched by City, Liverpool and Juventus, would offer a versatile option to Arsenal’s attack as he is able of playing in the broader role or as a central striker.
The 21-year-old was given his excellent debut for Argentina’s national team last year, and Boca’s hierarchy are sure that the attacker will be part of Jorge Sampaoli’s squad for this summer’s World Cup.
Arsenal have also retained their interest in Thomas Lemar after their failed move to the France international last summer.
But the 22-year-old is likely to stay at Monaco until the end of the season unless Arsenal or Liverpool are willing to spend £90m this month.
