Arsenal are reportedly preparing to make an opening bid for Youri Tielemans worth £25m. Mikel Arteta has settled on the Leicester City midfielder as his preferred midfield target and wants the club to proceed with the offer.
Belgium international was lauded as a brilliant capture when the Foxes signed him permanently from Monaco for a then club-record fee of £32m. Tielemans has since grown into one of PL’s finest talents, earning the admiration of many big teams.
For over a year, speculation has been rife over his long-term future as Youri entered the final two years of his deal. The Foxes began holding talks with the 25-year-old midfielder a year ago and somehow managed to keep hold of him during the last summer window, as he refused to entertain a new contract with the club.
They even came close to losing him in winter when the Gunners were reportedly interested. Leicester City coach even conceded at that time, saying he may be helpless to stop the Belgian midfielder from leaving if the right offer came in.
The Belgian has since continued to be linked with a switch to Arsenal, with the London club now expected to make their first move. The Gunners have been linked with a new midfielder and are looking for someone with an attacking instinct to partner Partey. The former Monaco midfielder is one of their targets for the position as Mikel Arteta seeks an upgrade to Xhaka in the area.
