Arsenal held negotiations with 22-year-old Ligue 1 midfielder

The London giants could reportedly be ready to complete the signing of Lyon playmaker Houssem Aouar in the next few days. U21 France international has been heavily linked with the Gunners and it may be that they’re now stepping up their interest.

Arsenal have decided to make a bid to meet the Les Gones’ £60m asking price for Houssem, and that a deal could be days away from completion. As previously noted, it looks other possible suitors for Aouar have not yet firmed up their interest in the playmaker.

This could put Gunners in a strong position, and supporters will hope the report is accurate. The 22-year-old star has looked possibly world-class with his form in Ligue 1 and in the UCL, and it would be some statement by the Gunners if they could win the battle for his signature.

Arsenal manager is putting an exciting team together after lifting the mood at the London club, with Gabriel Magalhaes and Willian looking promising additions this summer. The French midfielder, however, would be on another level for the Gunners and show they’re really back in business as serious top four contenders.

Mikel Arteta has shown he is willing to give all the current footballers a clean slate and the likes of Mohamed Elneny and Eddie Nketiah are reaping the rewards of that. Arteta may have to continue putting his trust in those footballers though with the Gunners unlikely to find the cash that Atletico Madrid and Lyon are demanding.
