The London giants are reportedly plotting a move for Lille star Renato Sanches. The 24-year-old midfielder is open to leaving Ligue 1 if the right offer comes in. Renato has revitalised his career after dismal stints at Swansea and Bayern Munich.
Sanches has transformed into one of the finest central midfielders in the world and played an important role in Lille’s run to the Ligue 1 trophy last campaign. Portugal international has played 67 games for Les Dogues in all tournaments since joining Lille in 2019, scoring five goals and providing six assists.
His displays have attracted the attention of several top European teams, including Arsenal, Milan and Liverpool. The Portuguese midfielder has two years left on his current deal and is reportedly available for only £25m. The Gunners are currently a bit thin on options in midfield.
Partey has struggled with injuries ever since his arrival from Atletico Madrid, while Sambi Lokonga is far from the finished product. Lokonga has shown flashes of his potential during his short time at Emirates Stadium, but his lack of experience has been evident in the big matches.
Meanwhile, Xhaka has never really endeared himself to the Gunners supporters and could be shipped out next campaign despite signing a new deal in the summer.
In that context, the Gunners could do with a footballer of Sanches’ attributes in the centre of the park. Renato is a speedy and agile midfielder who has the ability to drive his team forward during counter-attacks and transitions.
