London club were reportedly interested in RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano this summer transfer window, and they could now be given a reason to try and add him again. U21 France international has established himself as one of the top talents in Europe having far impressed for both Salzburg and Leipzig over the past three campaigns.
Capped from U16 to U21 level for the Les Bleus, there is little doubt that Dayot has a big future ahead of him, but time will tell whether or not he opts to leave Bundesliga and move on soon.
It could become more likely given that Upamecano’s release clause is said to be set to drop to £53m next summer, with it was believed to be over £72m when Gunners tried to add Frenchman.
If accurate, that could give them hope that a deal could be done this time around if they have the financial muscle to meet such touted demands and take the 20-year-old defender to Emirates Stadium next year. Amid the addition of David Luiz, Arsenal have continued to struggle in defence as it stays a major weakness for the London club.
They’ve conceded 11 goals in only seven Premier League matches thus far, and that follows on from conceding 51 goals in 38 league games last year which gave them the second terrible defensive record of the top nine sides in the table.
Spanish tactician also has the return of Rob Holding to consider, but with the likes of David Luiz, Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi failing to offer consistent and long-term assurances, it could force Gunners to enter the transfer market again.
