Arsenal in pole position to sign 25-year-old South American midfielder

The London giants have been handed a major blow in the pursuit of Arthur Melo. Arsenal were seeking a loan deal for the 25-year-old midfielder in winter, but it appears Juventus have no intention of offloading their footballer on a temporary move.

It is a rather ambitious demand from the Old Lady, considering the fact that Thomas Partey is considered the best midfielder at Emirates Stadium.

Although Ghana international has not quite been able to live up to the lofty expectations since joining the club from Atletico Madrid in 2020, Partey stays an integral part of the Spanish manager’s midfield unit. Thomas is currently unavailable for the Gunners as he is representing Ghana at the ongoing AFCON.

His absence has already accelerated Arsenal’s pursuit of a new midfielder, with the Spanish boss keen on shoring up his options in the middle of the park, especially after Maitland-Niles’s loan move to Roma earlier this month. The Gunners have been primarily linked with a move for the Brazilian midfielder of Juventus.

It appears Mikel Arteta is a huge admirer of the ex-Barcelona midfielder, largely due to his technical prowess and versatility in midfield. Recent reports had even suggested that Arsenal were in advanced talks to snap up the South American midfielder this month.

The Gunners had been in contention to bring back Aaron Ramsey to Arsenal earlier in the campaign, but it won’t be surprising to see Mikel Arteta going after a more combative midfielder.
