The London club have added Norwich City winger Emiliano Buendia to their winter transfer shortlist following their disappointing start to the new campaign. The Spanish manager has restored the feel-good factor at the end of the last campaign, masterminding an FA Cup success over Chelsea and securing European qualification.
The London giants invested heavily in their squad over the summer, particularly with the signings of Thomas Partey and Gabriel, but results have deteriorated at an alarming rate culminating in Sunday’s defeat with Wolves.
While there has been some semblance of defensive improvement, the goals have dried up for the Gunners who have scored only once from open play in their last nine hours of top-flight football.
With Mesut Ozil frozen out, a lack of creativity in midfield has starved captain and star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of the service he depends on and the Spanish tactician will look to address that deficiency in winter.
Mikel Arteta attempted to sign Houssem Aouar from Lyon in the summer but Gunners were unable to agree on a fee with the Ligue 1 club and Buendia would represent a far cheaper option. Emiliano impressed for the Canaries last campaign despite their relegation to the Championship and any possible sale in winter will depend on Norwich and their need to sell.
With eight wins from 14 games so far this campaign, the Canaries are currently top of the table and making a strong fist of achieving an instant come back to the PL. Aouar, meanwhile, despite a difficult spell at Lyon, looks destined to remain in France until the end of the campaign.
