Arsenal keep a close eye on 22-year-old Sweden international

Arsenal and Barcelona are the chief contenders to secure the services of Alexander Isak in the summer transfer window, with the London giants in pole position to add the striker. Sweden international has a €90m release clause in his Real Sociedad deal.

The 22-year-old striker joined La Liga giants from Borussia Dortmund in summer 2019 and has since come leaps and bounds. Now widely regarded as one of the best young centre-forwards in Spain, the Swedish striker is a regular fixture for club and country.

To date, the Swedish has played 110 games for La Liga giants, amassing 40 goals and seven assists in the process. The former Borussia Dortmund striker’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with some of the biggest teams in Europe, including Barcelona and Arsenal, setting their sights on the centre-forward.

The interest from the Gunners is understandable, considering Lacazette could depart the London club as a free agent in the summer. In addition, Aubameyang has been frozen out of the first-team picture since being stripped of the captaincy by the Spanish coach.

So, signing a centre-forward is rightly a priority for the Gunners, with Alexander a crucial target. Signing Isak will not be cheap, as the striker has a €90m release clause in his Real Sociedad deal.

However, Real Sociedad could accept a lower sum, too, although they are hesitant in dealing with La Liga rivals Barcelona. Such a development has sent the Gunners into the lead in the race to add Alexander Isak.
