Arsenal keep a close eye on No.11 creative La Liga attacker

The London giants’ opportunities of signing Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio in the winter transfer window have been boosted as the attacker is open to joining Arsenal. Spain international has been with Los Blancos for over six years now, having arrived from Mallorca in the summer of 2015.

After an excellent campaign on loan at Espanyol, Asensio was drafted into the first-team squad at Real Madrid. Marco was tipped as Los Blancos’ future after a run of fantastic displays early in his tenure. However, the 25-year-old winger’s progression took a hit when he suffered a long-term injury that sidelined him for almost a year.

Since returning fully last campaign, the Spanish forward has been unable to hit the heights of the past, struggling to make an impact. As a result, the Spaniard has found himself on the periphery of the first team, with the likes of Vinicius, Rodrygo and Vazquez getting more playing time.

Indeed, in the ongoing season, Marco has only started five matches across all tournaments (14 games in total) under Ancelotti. With the FIFA World Cup coming next year, Asensio is keen on making the Spain squad and believes that he might not be able to make an impression on Luis Enrique if he continues to warm the benches at Los Blancos.

However, that has not dissuaded them one bit, as the interest in Marco continues to stay intact. Arsenal have been heavily reliant on Saka and Smith Rowe to provide the creative spark in the final third.
