Arsenal are preparing to make a formal approach to Sassuolo as they explore the possibility of signing Gianluca Scamacca in the summer transfer window. After spending time at the youth setups of Lazio, Roma and PSV, Italy international has been with the Neroverdi since 2017.
Scamacca has spent a considerable time away on loan, having had stints with Cremonense, Zwolle, Ascoli and Genoa. Gianluca became a regular part of the first-team setup for Sassuolo during the 2021/22 season and enjoyed a productive run.
The 23-year-old striker finished his first full campaign with the Neroverdi’s first team with a tally of 16 goals from 36 league games, which has also helped him earn a spot in the Italian national team. And the Italian centre-forward’s displays for his club have put him on the radars of a giant of the English game in Arsenal.
The Gunners are in the market for at least one new top striker heading into the summer. Having sold Aubameyang in winter, Arsenal lost Lacazette on a Bosman deal, with the striker confirming his return to Lyon. It has left Nketiah as the only senior centre-forward at Mikel Arteta’s disposal, with the academy graduate expected to pen a new contract.
The Gunners are scouring the market for attacking reinforcements, as a result, and have narrowed in on multiple options. One such footballer who the Spanish manager’s side are looking to sign now is the Italian.
