Arsenal keeping tabs with 25-year-old Iceland international

The London giants to target Iceland shot-stopper Rúnar Alex Rúnarsson from Dijon as a replacement for Emiliano Martinez following move to Aston Villa. Matt Macey is now listed as the only senior backup to Bernd Leno on the Gunners website going into the campaign, so it’s inevitable that another addition is going to have to come in.

Argentina international confirmed his transfer to Aston Villa earlier on today so there’s an urgent need to add a backup goalkeeper, but it seems like a new addition will purely be a backup and not a challenger to Germany international.

Gunners had already been linked with a Dijon winger in Mounir Chouiar earlier on today, but it now seems like they are also going after his teammate to fill that goalkeeping void.

Iceland international hasn’t always been the automatic starter for the French club so you have to presume that Bernd Leno will continue to be the undisputed number one, while it also suggests that he might be cheap too.

It’s a move that would make sense as the backup shot-stopper is only going to play in the event of a disaster while there are other positions of the team that need to be improved.

Replacing Emiliano Martinez is now a pressing need and you have to think they wouldn’t have allowed him to leave if a back up wasn’t already lined up, so expect something to happen very soon.

Gunners are now in active discussions with Brentford in a bid to sign their shot-stopper David Raya, and it does sound like there’s a good opportunity of this deal happening.
