Arsenal on the verge of signing 19-year-old Scotland international

It appears Aaron Hickey could be ready for a move away from Bologna this summer, with Arsenal prepared to begin negotiations with the Serie A club over his possible arrival at the end of the campaign. The Italian club appear to be open to offloading Scotland international in the summer transfer window.

But they are ready to hold out for a figure of nearly €20m and are overall hoping to generate €30m from the sale of him and Mattias Svanberg, who stays a top target for Tottenham and West Ham United.

The Gunners’ pursuit of Aaron is hardly surprising as the Spanish manager has lacked a proper alternative for Tierney at left-back this campaign. Arsenal had brought in Tavares from Portugal last summer, but the teenager has struggled with consistency, often failing to live up to the expectations.

It has prompted the Gunners to go after a new left-back as the Spanish tactician looks to shore up his options in the position. Arsenal are also in the market for a new right-back to offer competition for Tomiyasu and Cedric, with Nahuel Molina emerging as a possible target.

As for the left-back, the Gunners are targeting a move for Hickey. A product of the Hearts youth academy, the 19-year-old defender has enjoyed unprecedented success since joining the Italian club in the summer of 2020. In 46 competitive games, the Scottish left-back has racked up five goals, becoming a lynchpin in the Bologna defence in the process.
