Arsenal planning shock move for 33-year-old Spanish striker

The London giants are reportedly keen on signing Diego Costa in this window as they face difficulties pursuing primary centre-forward targets. Spain international has been a free agent since terminating his deal with Atletico Mineiro.

The Gunners finds themselves in a tricky situation as they face a real shortage of centre-forwards heading into the second half of the campaign. Since they have been knocked out of the FA Cup and have no European competitions, their sole focus stays on the PL.

The Spanish tactician currently has just Lacazette as his senior striker. Martinelli is capable of slotting in centrally, but his recent surge in a wide role means the Spanish coach is unlikely to change things regarding his position. Arsenal have banished Aubameyang from their plans, while Nketiah’s future stays uncertain.

Meanwhile, Balogun has left Arsenal on loan and signed with Middlesbrough. While Mikel Arteta’s main target is Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic, the process to broker a deal for the Serbian centre-forward is proving difficult for the Gunners so far.

While it is unknown if Vlahovic will sign for Arsenal, they have alternatives such as Lille striker Jonathan David and Real Sociedad centre-forward Alexander Isak in their sights.

However, there could be complications in pursuing those stars, and the Gunners believe they cannot end the window without signing a reliable centre-forward. They are reportedly content with bringing someone just as a backup for Alexandre Lacazette to provide depth.
