Arsenal renewed interest in 23-year-old Netherlands international

Arsenal stay in the battle for Cody Gakpo, with the forward a priority target for the Spanish manager. The PSV forward is coming on the back of a prolific campaign for the Dutch club, and the London giants may launch an approach for the attacker in the summer.

The Gunners aim to build on a successful transitional campaign under the Spanish coach as they eye several crucial figures to strengthen their squad ahead of the next campaign. They have a chance to finish in the top four ahead of Tottenham, which would allow them to spend a bit more fluidly in the coming window.

After bolstering the back-line and goalkeeping positions in the previous summer, Mikel Arteta is likely to focus on reinforcing the front-line of the club. While the current crop have performed admirably, the Spanish tactician is keen to add competition for existing stars such as Martinelli, Smith Rowe and Saka.

The Gunners’ priority is to add a centre-forward, and they are working to land Gabriel Jesus from Man City. At the same time, Mikel Arteta also wants a wide forward on priority, which has seen them trailing highly-rated stars, including Raheem Sterling.

The Gunners were considered frontrunners to add the Netherlands international early on, but their focus may have deviated due to the Englishman’s availability in recent days. However, Arsenal could now be back in the battle for Gakpo, who is reportedly valued at €35m in the current market.
