Arsenal renewed interest in 6 ft 4 in Bundesliga defensive rock

Kevin Campbell says ‘serial winner’ Jerome Boateng is the type of experienced character that the London club are in need of amid reports linking the Bayern Munich defender to Arsenal. Germany international’s deal with Bayern is due to expire at the end of the campaign and he will not be offered a new contract.

The German outlet says that Jerome was on Arsenal’s shortlist last summer and they are still monitoring his situation. With David Luiz’s contract also due to expire in June 2021, ex-Arsenal striker Campbell believes veteran centre-back Boateng could potentially step into the Brazilian’s role of helping teenagers at the club develop.

‘You can never have enough quality and you can never have enough players who have done it at the top level,’ Campbell said. ‘Looking to maybe recruit someone like Jerome Boateng shows where the club is at. ‘Gabriel and William Saliba would benefit from having somebody like Boateng at the club.’

‘I am not sure how long David Luiz will be at the club so Jerome Boateng could be that experienced player who helps others fulfill their potential. Arsenal need characters. They need strong characters who have been there and done it at the top level. Jerome Boateng is certainly one.’

‘If you put it out to the Arsenal fan base they will say, ‘Oh he is too old’. ‘But beggars cannot be choosers and we need experience. He is a serial winner.’
