The London giants are ‘seriously interested’ in signing Lille midfielder Renato Sanches and will compete with Milan for the footballer’s signature in the winter transfer window. Portugal international was once considered the next big thing in European football after winning the Golden Boy award and earning a £35m move to Bayern Munich.
However, though his development hasn’t quite matched those expectations, Sanches’ found his feet at Ligue 1 club and has got his career back on track after a turbulent few years. Renato agreed on terms with Barcelona over a move to the Catalan club last summer, but the Blaugrana failed to meet Les Dogues’ asking price for the footballer.
That has opened the door to other suitors, and the Gunners are ‘serious’ contenders for the 24-year-old midfielder’s signature. Arsenal are said to have already made their interest clear to the Portuguese midfielder, his representatives and the French club, but they’ve yet to make an offer for the footballer.
It could be that the Gunners are sounding out Lille for a valuation of former Bayern Munich midfielder or waiting to see the level of competition for his signature. Ligue 1 giants are understandably keen to keep the midfielder, but they’ll listen to suitable offers for his services, with Lille said to value him at nearly £35m.
Milan have already reportedly tabled an offer for Renato, but the Gunners’ greater financial strength means they could outbid the Rossoneri should it come to a straight battle.
