Arsenal will lose out to Everton in the race to sign Getafe centre-back Djene Dakonam in the transfer window.
The north London club have been linked with a move for the 27-year-old defender, who enjoyed an impressive year as Getafe finished fifth in the top flight last season.
The Togo star is understood to have a £31 million release clause inserted into his deal, though, and Arsenal cannot afford to land the centre-back due to their modest budget this window.
Having missed out on Champions League for the 2019-20 season, the London side are only expected to have around £40 million to spend on new signings.
The Merseyside club could now seemingly have a free run to sign Djene Dakonam, who joined Getafe from Belgian side Sint-Truden in 2017. That said, Barcelona have also previously been credited with an interest.
Meanwhile Sampdoria have turned down Arsenal’s offer of 43 million for Dennis Praet and Joachim Andersen.
The Premier League giants continue to be linked with big-money moves, which includes a strong interest in each of the Serie A player.
The Gunners have made a substantial offer for the Danish centre-back and Belgium international, two of Sampdoria’s most in-form players over the last two seasons.
The Italian side are in no rush to part ways with the duo, with Arsenal being told it will cost £49 million to secure the double move.
Christian Andersen still has three years left on his deal, while Dennis Praet’s contract is due to expire in 2021.
