The London giants could reportedly stay keen on a possible transfer deal for Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey in the near future. Despite U21 England international just signing a new long-term deal with Brighton, it’s expected that interested teams will not be put off pursuing him following this development.
Tariq is also linked with Man City and Everton in the report, so the Gunners could have a battle on their hands to sign the right-back. Having come through Chelsea’s academy, Lamptey has now shown what he can do at PL level, and the London giants may well be regretting losing him.
That will be even more painful for Chelsea if the 20-year-old right-back soon makes the move to one of their direct rivals like Gunners or City. Arsenal don’t have an obvious need for a new right-back, but may well view Englishman as an upgrade on Hector Bellerin, who has had injury problems and generally not lived up to his full potential.
The report gives clubs hope of signing Tariq as they’re supposedly unlikely to stop their best footballers leaving as long as the price is right. Since his arrival at the AMEX, Lamptey has emerged as one of the league’s most gifted attacking full-backs.
The right-back has already been directly involved in five goals from his first 19 games in all tournaments for Brighton. It has been Lamptey’s inspired displays that reportedly saw Mikel Arteta’s Gunners emerge as possible suitors to snap the full-back up.
However, given the news that Brighton’s hierarchy are trying to tie Tariq down, the Gunners will either need to act quickly or be prepared to see his valuation rocket in the near future.
