Arsenal to retain services of £25m Uruguay international

Lucas Torreira is not agitating for a move away from Emirates this summer as AC Milan are desperate to bring the midfielder back to Italy after just a season with Arsenal and have already made one offer for the youngster.

Lucas Torreira is desperate to return to Serie A to play under his former Sampdoria manager, Marco Giampaolo but he is not seeking a switch and is happy in the Britsh capital with Arsenal, branding reports he is struggling to adjust to the English weather as ‘nonsense’.

Milan though are set to push ahead with plans to test Arsenal’s resolve and are planning to submit another bid. Marco Giampaolo has identified his former midfielder as his top target this transfer window, but the Gunners are unlikely to entertain any offer that does not significantly improve on the £25 million figure they forked out for the Uruguay international last year.

Unai Emery is facing a difficult transfer window with a budget of just £45 million at his disposal.

The Spanish manager is planning to sell players to raise further funds, and a big offer for Lucas Torreira might convince the Gunners to cash in on and reinvest the money in new signings. But Lucas Torreira was one of Unai Emery’s first signings at London club, and the 23-year-old ace was an immediate hit with Arsenal supporters.

Lucas Torreira is on international duty with Uruguay at the Copa America and will return late to pre-season after taking part in the competition.
