Arsenal to reward French star with bumper £75,000-a-week contract

Arsenal are ready to hand a new contract to midfielder Matteo Guendouzi, who joined the Gunners from Lorient in the last summer.

A regular for the north London side this term, the France Under-21 international has made 47 appearances in all competitions and only missed five of the club’s 38 Premier League games during the 2018-19 season.

Matteo Guendouzi still has three years to run on his £40,000-a-week deal at Emirates Stadium, but The Sun claims, the Gunners want to hand him a new contract which will almost double his wages to £75,000 a week.

The Gunners ended the season in the fifth position in the Premier League standings, but they can still qualify for the Champions League by winning the Europa League, with Unai Emery’s men facing city rivals Chelsea in the final on May 29.

Meanwhile, it may be said on Matteo Guendouzi that for Arsenal the addition of the 20-year-old star was a great move as the Frenchman has had a solid debut season with the Gunners.

Despite having positional mistakes in the midfield and losing ball frequently, the youngster has shown the glimpses of his talents and featuring for a Premier League giant more than 40 times in one campaign is a remarkable achievement.

Sven Mislintat organised the signing of £8 million-rated star as Unai Emery wanted to bring the midfielder to his side when the Spanish manager was coaching Paris Saint-Germain.

Unai Emery faced competition from his former side but managed to beat the Ligue 1 champions and secure the services of rising French star.
