Arsenal’s midfield maestro is out until the end of season

Mesut Ozil is expected to miss the rest of the season after suffering a recurrence of a back injury. German international was absent from the matchday squad for the 5-0 win over Burnley on Sunday, although he did travel to Emirates to be part of the farewell ceremony for Arsene Wenger, who coached his final home game as Arsenal boss.

The Gunners still have two matches of the season to come – away to Leicester City on Wednesday and Huddersfield Town on Sunday, but veteran manager is doubtful that the playmaker will be available for either.

“Mesut Ozil had a recurrence of his back problem. I don’t think he will be available again before the end of the season,” Wenger told reporters prior to his side’s win over Burnley.

Arsene Wenger’s men can no longer finish any higher or lower than sixth place in England’s top-flight but will be looking to end a miserable run of away form which has seen them lose all six league games on the road this year, the worst record in England and Europe’s top five leagues.
