Liverpool are linked with the signing of Atletico Madrid centre-back Jose Gimenez, according to the reports.
As per Spanish media outlet AS, Liverpool are eager to secure the services of Uruguayan defender, who has got a release clause around £111million in his current deal, to replace Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren as both of them are linked with an exit from Anfield.
AS have claimed that the high release clause could be a problem for Liverpool, however, the fact Gimenez is no longer a regular at Diego Simeone’s side could see the South American defender to consider his future somewhere else and what could be better to play alongside with the best defender at the moment Virgil van Dijk.
The 25-year-old defender started regularly with compatriot Diego Godin in the last season. Even this term, he started 8 of the first 9 league games, however, unfortunately, since October 2019, he has mostly been on the sidelines due to injury.
The South American defender has so far missed 16 games and Liverpool ready to offer him an escape route and lure him at Anfield this summer.
Signing world-class defender like Gimenez could make Liverpool defence the best in Europe as they look solid already.
In all competitions, the former Jimenez has made 16 appearances for the Spanish giants this term. As far as his international career is concerned, so far, Uruguayan has made 58 appearances for his country and despite his position has managed to found back of the net eight times.
