Barcelona have turned down the chance to sign Alexis Sanchez on loan from Manchester United in the summer.
The 30-year-old winger enjoyed a productive three-year stint at Camp Nou between 2011-2014, netting 47 goals in 141 games for the club as well as winning the Copa Del Rey and La Liga, however, he was allowed to leave to pave the way for Luis Suarez to join from Liverpool.
Although the Chile international initially thrived after leaving Barcelona for Arsenal back in 2014, he has endured a disastrous spell at Old Trafford netting just five times since his arrival in January 2018.
That poor run of form has led to talks that the out-of-form winger could be allowed to leave when the window re-opens, but it appears unlikely that he will return to Barcelona.
The Blaugrana have already committed to a big-money signing at the end of the season with Frenkie De Jong agreeing to join in a deal worth £65 million while they have also been linked with his teammate Matthijs De Ligt.
Barcelona are unwilling to take Sanchez on even temporarily in part due to his monstrous wages at Manchester United, with the Chilean receiving £500,000 per week.
It is very hard for the Red Devils to find a club how would take Alexis Sanchez on this salary and the only solution is if the player takes significant pay-cut.
The 30-year-old forward has suffered an injury-hit campaign and is currently sidelined with a knee problem, and it is bizarre to see that even under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer he cannot perform at his best.
