Chelsea closely monitoring 21-year-old Ligue 1 centre-back

Monaco centre-back Benoit Badiashile has emerged as one among several footballers Chelsea are looking at to bolster their defence in the summer transfer window. U21 France international has been with Les Monegasques since 2016, when he joined their academy from the Malesherbes youth setup.

Badiashile made his first-team breakthrough for the Principality outfit in November 2018, under then-coach Thierry Henry. Since then, Benoit has grown from strength to strength to become a permanent fixture at the back for Ligue 1 giants.

The 21-year-old centre-back, to date, has played 119 games for the French club, scoring four times and assisting three goals. The French defender represents France at the Under-21 level currently and is also the captain of the club.

Despite his young age, the Frenchman has shown tremendous quality and maturity, leading to interest from several teams. The BLues are looking at a major defensive overhaul this summer, having already lost Christensen and Rudiger.

The former is poised to join Barcelona on a Bosman deal, while the latter has signed for Real Madrid on a free transfer. Furthermore, Azpilicueta is also the subject of interest from Barcelona and could depart from Chelsea. It would leave the Blues light and short on quality in the defensive department.

So, it is imperative that Chelsea sign at least one top-quality centre-back in the summer. Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde has emerged as the main priority for Chelsea, but they are also exploring several other options, with Benoit Badiashile one such alternative.
