The London giants are closely monitoring Eder Militao’s situation at Real Madrid. Brazil international has emerged as a defensive lynchpin under Carlo Ancelotti, but with a salary of only €4.5m per season, he stays one of the lowest earners in the club.
It has put the Blues on red alert, with the PL giants hoping to lure Militao by offering him a lucrative deal. They have already tabled a €40m bid to Los Blancos for Eder, but it appears Florentino Perez is not too keen on cashing in on his defender.
In fact, La Liga giants intend to extend the 23-year-old defender’s deal in an attempt to fend off possible suitors like the Blues.
Although the Brazilian centre-back’s current contract at Los Blancos does not expire until 2025, Florentino Perez wants to improve his salary while embedding a new release clause that could price him out of a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu.
It is welcome news for the South American defender, who has stepped up his game considerably since the appointment of the Italian coach. The former Porto defender has built a solid defensive foundation alongside David Alaba that has been critical in helping the team move on from Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane.
Eder’s displays, though, have not deterred Los Blancos from entering the market for further defensive reinforcements. Incidentally, they are one of the teams in contention to sign the Blues’ defensive stalwart Antonio Rudiger, who is reportedly unhappy over his salary at Chelsea and could leave the club on a free transfer next summer.
