The German manager has admitted to the widely known fact about the London giants’ keen interest in securing Jules Kounde in the summer. The Blues are on the rise under the German tactician as they continue to dominate proceedings in the PL.
Chelsea have collected 10 points from the four matches so far, with a big credit going to new addition Romelu Lukaku, who scored a brace with Aston Villa. However, since winning last campaign’s UCL, Thomas Tuchel and the Blues board have worked hard to secure top additions and strengthen the squad.
They also signed Saul Niguez from Atletico Madrid on deadline day, although missing out on priority target Jules Kounde. France international has been the Blues’ no.1 defensive target, and the club pursued the French defender all summer long.
Despite verbally agreeing with Sevilla over a deal, the Spanish club later increased their asking price to put the Blues off the trail. Recent reports suggested Chelsea might go back in winter to add the Frenchman if Sevilla agrees to lower their asking price to €50m.
The German coach could feel the need for a top-rated defender after letting Kurt Zouma leave for West Ham United, although so far, Thomas Tuchel has managed to find solutions internally with Trevoh Chalobah.
Now, it stays to be seen if the German coach would urge the Blues to go back in winter or next summer to sign the defender. However, if he is satisfied with his current options, especially with the development of a Chalobah, the London club might end their interest in Jules Kounde.
