Chelsea eager to sign €20m-rated Hungary international

Chelsea have held negotiations in London with the agents of Fenerbahce centre-back Attila Szalai. The London giants are in the market for centre-back in winter despite their incredible defensive record this campaign. Hungary international has emerged as a top target, and discussions have already been held over a possible winter deal.

His representatives ROGON met with Chelsea officials last week to discuss a possible move to the London club. The Blues are set to test the Turkish club’s resolve to keep hold of Szalai in the winter transfer window. Attila has a deal at Fenerbahce that runs until the summer of 2025.

The German coach is keen to sign a top defender amid doubts over the long-term futures of Rudiger, Christensen and Silva. The 23-year-old defender has impressed for club and country during the last 12 months and featured with England during their recent World Cup qualifiers.

The Hungarian defender has earned 23 caps for the national team and played four games in this campaign’s Europa League. Szalai played as one of three defenders in his country’s 1-1 World Cup qualifier draw with England at Wembley last month.

Thomas Tuchel has set up the Blues in a three-man defence in every match they have played this campaign, and the results have been remarkable.

Chelsea top the PL with only four goals conceded from 12 games and have qualified for the UCL knockout stages. With a purchase price of €23.4m, Szalai would be the most expensive Hungarian player ever acquired, surpassing the recent record of Dominik Szoboszlai.
