Chelsea enter the battle to sign 20-year-old Eredivisie centre-back

Interest in Ajax centre-back Jurrien Timber is on the rise, with the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham keen. Both teams are joined by a host of other names, including PSG, as Eredivisie giants could brace themselves for a potential bidding war next summer.

The report suggests both teams have been tracking the Netherlands international for nearly two years and are convinced of his qualities. It also vaguely suggests, the London club view Jurrien similar to a certain William Gallas, who played for both teams at some stage of his fantastic career.

Timber enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with the Dutch club in 2020/21, playing 20 games in the Eredivisie. However, there has been interest in the 20-year-old defender well before that. While his current contract lasts until 2024, Ajax are relaxed and bracing themselves for offers next summer.

Ajax might not entertain bids in winter as the Dutch centre-back is taking strides in the right direction while also raking up six caps for the national team. Ajax expect Jurrien to develop further, and if the footballer has a good campaign this term, his value could go higher.

The Blues are looking at him to add another quality footballer to their ranks. It’s a common understanding that Chelsea always value a young player, as in recent years, they have sent a host of names on loan for further development. The PL club have made important sales of their young, fringe stars in recent windows.
