Chelsea forward could make shock return to Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace are willing to make a fresh move for Chelsea forward Michy Batshuayi in the January transfer window.

The Selhurst Park side, currently residing sixth place in the Premier League, want to improve their forward line when the transfer window reopens, and have made Belgian their main winter target.

The 26-year-old player spent the second half of last season on loan at Crystal Palace and scored six goals in 11 starts for Roy Hodgson’s team.

The Belgian, who is rated at around £22million, returned to Chelsea in the summer for a new attempt to try and establish himself under new head coach Frank Lampard.

He has scored three goals in six games, though only one of those was a start, with five substitute run-outs.

Batshuayi scored Chelsea’s final goal in their 4-1 win at Southampton on Sunday, which was his first league goal for the club since October 2017, though he has since had loan spells at Palace, Valencia and Dortmund

But he has now seen his path obstructed by Tammy Abraham, who has scored nine goals and established himself as Lampard’s primary striker.

Palace though hope Chelsea could be persuaded to part with Batshuayi with Abraham’s arrival, and with Giroud still in Lampard’s squad as cover.

By January, Batshuayi will have only 18 months left on the contract, which he signed in 2016 when he joined from Marseille for £32m.
