Chelsea given green light to sign 27-year-old Serie A striker

The London giants are intent on securing a reunion with former centre-forward Romelu Lukaku in the upcoming transfer window but will have to pay a humungous transfer fee of £105m to sign him from Inter Milan. Belgium international signed for the Blues from Belgian club Anderlecht back in the summer of 2011 in a deal worth £18m.

However, Lukaku never really got a fair shot at first-team chances at the London club. After loan spells away at West Bromwich Albion and Everton, Romelu joined the latter on a permanent deal in 2014 and went on to establish himself as one of the best centre-forwards in the PL.

The 27-year-old centre-forward joined Man United in 2017 and enjoyed a productive two-year stint before moving to Inter Milan. Since joining the Nerazzurri, the Belgian striker has taken his game to the next level and has cemented his status as one of the top goalscorers in Europe.

Indeed, Lukaku has been the biggest driving force behind Nerazzurri’s ascent to the top of the Serie A standings this campaign. Given his development since leaving the club in 2014, Blues are now keen on bringing Romelu back to the club in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Chelsea are desperately looking for a new striker ahead of the new season with last summer’s marquee signing Timo Werner failing to make the kind of impact that was expected of him.

Indeed, Werner’s confidence looks completely shot as he has missed a host of gilt-edged chances over the course of the campaign. While Erling Haaland has been linked, Blues have given up their pursuit of the Borussia Dortmund star.
