Chelsea halted talks over £32m deal for world-class shot-stopper

Chelsea have stalled talks with Real Madrid over a potential deal for Thibaut Courtois and will not resume until they sign a replacement goalkeeper.

The Blues had decided to let the wantaway star leave Stamford Bridge this summer with Real Madrid keen to do a deal, but the west London giants have failed to make progress on signing a replacement, according to Sky Sports News.

The report says Chelsea’s number one target to replace Courtois is Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, but the publication claims that the England star is set to enter talks with the Toffees over a newly improved contract extension.

Thibaut Courtois is reportedly valued at £32 million by Chelsea because he has one year left on his contract and it is believed that he would not have any issues agreeing personal terms at Madrid outfit.

Chelsea have signed veteran shot-stopper Rob Green on a one-year deal this summer, but the 38-year-old is likely to be third in the pecking order regardless of the situation surrounding the Premier League’s first choice.

The report claims that a deal for winger Willian, who was also the subject of a bid from Los Blancos, is not implicated in the Belgium international’s negotiations and would not affect the possibility of that transfer going through.
