Chelsea handed boost to sign world-class No.7 winger

Barcelona have lost patience with Philippe Coutinho and will sell the Chelsea transfer target in the summer window following his ineffectual displays against Liverpool in the Champions League semi-finals.

The 26-year-old became the Catalan giants’ record signing when he joined from Liverpool in a deal worth up to a £142 million, however, the playmaker has struggled to live up to expectations since.

Philippe Coutinho was jeered by Barcelona’s fans during their 3-0 win at Camp Nou in the first leg when he was withdrawn for right-back Nelson Semedo and Ernesto Valverde made the same substitution at Anfield.

It isn’t only the Barcelona fans who have been left underwhelmed by Brazilian’s performances in Spain but also the media too with Catalan newspaper Sport handing him a 0/10 rating during their 4-0 loss to Liverpool and describing him as ‘lazy’.

And now ESPN reports that he is running out of time to salvage his career at Nou Camp with a club source telling them: ‘Coutinho is not a Barcelona player, that’s been made clear,’ and that ‘he has added nothing. He will leave in the summer.’

Philippe Coutinho made a reasonable start to his career in Barcelona, helping the club win La Liga and the Copa Del Rey, however, he has been increasingly singled out for criticism this term.

Chelsea have been linked with Brazilian attacker since the Selecao star started struggling at their European rivals and the Blues will be ready to launch a bid if the time is right.
