Chelsea held negotiations with €60m-rated La Liga centre-back

Chelsea are ready to make a final push to try and secure the signing of Jules Kounde from Sevilla in the summer transfer window. France international has been one of the most sought-after centre-backs in Europe for almost a year now.

Having signed for La Liga giants from Bordeaux in 2019, Kounde has been nothing short of a revelation. In his debut campaign with the Spanish club, Jules helped the club win the Europa League and has played a crucial role in ensuring Los Nervionenses achieve top-four finishes in back-to-back campaigns since then.

Jules’ stock has risen rapidly during his time at Sevilla, and the defender came very close to leaving the club last summer as the Blues made great efforts to secure his signing. However, La Liga giants decided to increase their asking price for the 23-year-old centre-back at the last moment, leading to the move collapsing.

Having stayed put at Sevilla, the French centre-back has impressed heavily again and has never left the Blues’ attention. Chelsea are in the market for defensive reinforcements as Rudiger is set to join Real Madrid on a Bosman deal, while Christensen is headed to Barcelona.

The Frenchman, to that end, has emerged as the top target for the Blues to replace Rudiger. As per the report, Chelsea are ready to make a final effort to sign him once the current season is over. The Blues had been held back by the ownership issues.
