Chelsea in pole position to sign 23-year-old France international

Chelsea and Man United are reportedly among the teams on alert for a possible transfer as Ousmane Dembele’s Barcelona future looks in major doubt. The 23-year-old winger has a contract running until 2022, meaning the Blaugrana could be forced to sell him this summer if he doesn’t sign a new contract by then.

The report claims this has Blues and Red Devils closely monitoring Ousmane’s situation, with the forward showing a real improvement in form in recent times. On his day, Dembele is clearly a huge talent with world-class potential, and at his age, he still has time on his side in terms of reviving his career after a difficult spell at Barca.

France international looked an elite prospect during his time in the Bundesliga, and one can imagine he’d be a great signing for Blues or Red Devils if he got back to his best.

The Norwegian manager would surely benefit from bringing another attacking footballer of this type in, with even a below-par French forward likely to be an upgrade on the out-of-form Anthony Martial, while Jesse Lingard and Dan James have both fallen out of favour after a lack of impact.

Blues, meanwhile, might also do well to pounce for the World Cup-winning winger after a slow start to life at Chelsea for summer additions Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.

The biggest reason why he’s having his best season since arriving is that he’s managed to stay fit. The talent was always there but he couldn’t show it because his injuries would keep him out for a large, or all, a chunk of the season.
