Chelsea in pole position to sign No.8 England international

The London giants are interested in signing James Ward-Prowse, with the German coach an admirer of his talents. England international is also being courted by Liverpool and Man United and is valued at nearly €50m by Southampton.

The 26-year-old playmaker has been with Aston Villa since joining their academy as an eight-year-old back in 2003. Since then, the English midfielder has come leaps and bounds and is now one of the first names on the team sheet.

Ward-Prowse also became the Saints captain last year, nearly a decade after he broke into the first-team setup at St. Mary’s. To date, James has played 331 games for the Saints, chipping in with 35 goals and 42 assists along the way. His continued progress has captured the attention of several teams over the years.

And as things stand, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man United are among his suitors. The interest from the Blues is interesting, considering Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour are touted for bright futures at the London club while Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been winning the German coach over with his displays.

However, there have been suggestions that N’Golo Kante could be on his way out of Chelsea soon, while Saul Niguez looks unlikely to be signed permanently.

With that in mind, it seems like a good decision for the Blues to keep an eye on the Englishman, seeing as Gallagher is also attracting a few prospective suitors lately. The Saints will demand €50m for their captain, which appears to be a fair price following his renewal in August.
