Chelsea reportedly remain focused on securing the services of Ben Chilwell from Leicester City, despite cheaper alternatives at the left-back position.
The West London club have already bolstered their offensive end ahead of next campaign by securing the services of Timo Werner from RB Leipzig and Hakim Zyech from Ajax and are now looking to do likewise to their defensive end, having shipped 54 Premier League goals in 2019-20 season.
England international Chilwell is Frank Lampard’s No.1 transfer target, however, he has another four years left on his current deal with Leicester and the Foxes are holding out for a huge fee.
That has led to reports that Chelsea may instead go for either Ajax’s full-back Nicolas Tagliafico, Porto’s Alex Telles, Marc Cucurella of Getafe or Robin Gosens from Atalanta, each of whom are available for under £30m.
According to Goal, however, the West London giants are still prioritising signing Chilwell, even if it see them to meet £80m Leicester City’s asking price.
Chilwell played 30 games for Brendan Rodgers side in all competitions in 2019-20 season, founding back of the net three times and providing three more assists in the process.
Emerson Palmieri and Marcos Alonso both continue to be rumoured with a departure from Stamford Bridge and signing Chilwell would be a huge upgrade from Lampard’s squad.
