Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte has reportedly asked Arsenal centre-forward Olivier Giroud to move to Stamford Bridge.

The 31-year-old Giroud came close to leaving the Gunners in the summer and was a target for Everton.

However, Arsene Wenger resisted selling the France international in order to keep competition for places high at the top end of the pitch.

But now, the reports from Spanish media outlet Don Balon claim that Chelsea manager Conte is keen on Giroud and will try and snare him away in January.

The west London giants currently only have two recognised strikers within their ranks, Alvaro Morata and Michy Batshuayi, and it is believed that Antonio Conte is looking for an additional option. And while Giroud’s future remains up in the air, a move across the capital cannot be ruled out.

Meanwhile, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are both still interested in signing Everton attacking midfielder Ross Barkley when the transfer window reopens for business.

The Toffees were keen to cash in on the 23-year-old Barkley during the summer after he refused to commit to the club by putting pen to paper on a new contract deal.

England international, who is due to be out of contract next season, was on the verge of joining Chelsea on deadline day when arriving at the Blues’ training ground to undergo a medical.
