The London giants will keep a close eye on Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham in case they can’t land Declan Rice. Blues boss wanted to sign Declan back in the summer, but a deal never materialised. Lampard is still said to be keen on bringing Rice in, but the Hammers are standing firm on their £70m valuation of their prized asset.
And Chelsea will monitor how England international develops at Borussia Dortmund as they consider him a possible alternative to the 21-year-old midfielder in the future. Jude was courted by Europe’s top clubs last summer following an outstanding breakthrough season at Birmingham City.
But despite interest from the likes of Man United, Bellingham opted to move to the Bundesliga club to fast-track his progress. The report states that although Frank views Declan as the ‘perfect signing’, the Blues hierarchy are asking questions over whether they need him at this moment in time.
Chelsea are also said to be considering moving for the 17-year-old ahead of Rice in 2022 if they can get through until then with N’Golo Kante in midfield. France international has recently been linked with a move away from Chelsea and there are some doubts about how long he will remain at Stamford Bridge.
The report also says that Blues are admirers of the fact that the English midfielder can operate as either or a number six or number eight in midfield. Jude marked his rapid rise to the top with another major milestone as he made his England debut in the 3-0 friendly victory over the Republic of Ireland last week.
