Chelsea preparing long-term contract for €35m-rated defender

The London giants are doing everything in their power to keep hold of Antonio Rudiger beyond next summer’s transfer window. Chelsea are willing to offer the 28-year-old defender a deal with a net worth nearly €14m to keep Real Madrid at bay.

Germany international joined the Blues from Roma in summer 2017 and has since come a long way. The German defender is currently in the best phase of his career, having been rejuvenated under the tutelage of Thomas Tuchel. Many even believe he is among the best centre-backs in the PL at the moment.

To date, Rudiger has played 166 games for the Blues, chipping in with nine goals and five assists along the way. However, Chelsea are in a precarious situation over his long-term future, with Antonio in the final year of his deal. Such a situation has piqued the interest of the La Liga giants.

Recent reports have claimed that the German is in advanced talks with Real Madrid over a potential free transfer next summer. There have even been suggestions that the Blues centre-back would be open to joining Real Madrid, which has put Chelsea in a spot of bother.

The interest from Real Madrid does make sense, considering Carlo Ancelotti is short of quality central defensive options. Los Blancos chose not to sign as many replacements for Ramos and Varane in the summer, with Alaba the only defensive signing.
