Chelsea renewed negotiations with 25-year-old Serie A centre-back

The London giants are keeping tabs on the contractual situation of AC Milan centre-back Alessio Romagnoli, a report claims. Italy international is entering the final 18 months of his deal at San Siro, meaning the Rossoneri will have to make a decision on his future soon.

Alessio has been at Milan for most of his senior career and currently serves as their captain. Hence, Romagnoli stays a vital footballer for them, but they would not want to lose him for a discounted fee. That may be unavoidable if the 25-year-old centre-back comes no closer to signing a deal extension.

Therefore, until he commits, then there may be a chance for Blues. Frank Lampard is keen to shore up his back-line, even after the signing of Thiago Silva in the summer. Brazil international has helped improve their fortunes at the defence but is only a short-term solution.

Therefore, Blues could still be looking for a centre-back in their prime years. Previous reports have suggested Raphael Varane from Real Madrid, but the Italian is on the agenda. Frank has reportedly told Blues officials to keep track of Alessio’s situation. He would be “intrigued” by the opportunity to sign Romagnoli for a cheaper fee.

The report adds that Blues are also interested in Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, whose deal is due to expire even sooner at the end of this campaign. Donnarumma graduated from the Rossoneri academy at an early age to become their first-choice shot-stopper. Italy international has confirmed he wants to remain with Milan.
